BASIC CAPTIVE CARE FOR THE FROG EYE GECKO
Common Name: Frog Eye Gecko
Scientific Name:Teratoscincus scincus
Distribution: Iran and up into China
Size: 6" - 8"
NATURAL HABITAT :
The Frog Eye Gecko is a burrower, it inhabits desert and
semi desert regions of Iran and up into Western China. When
kept in captivity, Adult Frog Eye Geckos will require a
24"X17"x12" vivarium.
BEHAVIOUR :
Males may become territorial, Keep separate from other males.
Usually a tame lizard, but very active which can make it difficult
to handle. This lizard is nocturnal (mainly active at night).
CAPTIVE ENVIRONMENT :
Provide a basking area with access to a cooler area.
These lizards like plenty of hiding places supply imitation plants,
rocks, bark hides. Use sand as a substrat and make it fairly deep.
Keep the sand in one half of the vivarium semi moist, below the
surface only.
TEMPERATURE :
Daytime temperature should be:
Basking Area 85 to 90 degrees F.
Cool Area 80 degrees F.
Night temperature should range between 70-75 degrees F.
Use a reptile heat mat for 24-hour ground heat inside the vivarium.
HUMIDITY / WATER REQUIREMENTS:
These lizards require only moderate levels of humidity.
Supply a small / medium size, shallow bowl for drinking water.
NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
These lizards are carnivores. Always try to offer a varied diet,
Will feed on mealworms, waxworms, and black or brown crickets.
Always use a good dusting vitamin supplement.
