BASIC CARE SHEET FOR THE MONKEY TAIL SKINK
Common Name: Monkey Tail Skink / Prehensile Tail Skink
Scientific Name: Corucia zebrata
Distribution: Solomon Islands
Size: 1.5' - 2.5'
NATURAL HABITAT :
This skink is found in tropical rain forests, in the Solomon Islands.
Being nocturnal it Likes some dark hiding places
In captivity, Adults require a vivarium 4'x2'x2'
BEHAVIOUR :
Quite a friendly lizard, Will become tame with regular handling.
Males can become territorial, Keep separate from other males.
This Lizard is usually docile and quit easy to handle.
CAPTIVE ENVIRONMENT :
Use UV lighting 12-14 hours per day (Arcadia D3).
Provide a basking area with access to a cooler area.
This lizard likes plenty of hiding places ( imitation plants).
Also supply lots of climbing branches.
TEMPERATURE :
Daytime temperature should be:
Basking Area 80 to 90 degrees F.
Cool Area 78 degrees F.
Night temperature should range between 70-75 degrees F.
Use a reptile heat mat for 24-hour ground heat inside the vivarium.
HUMIDITY / WATER REQUIREMENTS :
This lizard requires moderate to high levels of humidity.
Provide a fairly large, deep bowl for drinking and bathing.
Mist the vivarium every 3-4 days.
NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
These skinks are herbivores, and eat only plant matter.
Always offer a good variety, They like dark greens ( turnip, dandelions, collards. )
They also like ( cabbage, kale in small amounts only. Also sprouts and spinach etc. )
They will also eat fruit, but remember their main diet should be leafy greens.
Always use a good dusting supplement.
